Celebratory Displays along with a Cheer for Life: Israeli Citizens Rejoice at Agreement Bringing Back Captives
The declaration regarding a deal expected to result in the release captives held in the Gaza Strip for more than 24 months has caused delight and relief across Israel.
An organization that has advocated for the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza expressed āprofound gratitudeā for what it termed a ālandmark achievementā.
The agreementāwhich still must be agreed upon Israelās war cabinetāwill see the release of 20 living hostages as well as the remains of 28 deceased captives in return for 250 Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences in Israeli prisons and 1,700 detainees from the Gaza region.
So far, 148 hostages have come backāmost as part of previous ceasefire dealsā51 sets of remains have been recovered and eight hostages have been rescued.
Jubilant Scenes in Hostagesā Square
Joyous gatherings have unfolded at Hostages Square located in Tel Aviv as hundreds of people assembled ahead of the deal being signed.
A crowd began clapping and dancing under American and Israeli bannersāa female attendee displaying a placard that read: āWe love Trump.ā
āThis is a wondrous day,ā she expressed.
A different person, Yael, aged 50, wept as she watched the people celebrating.
āI am thrilledāit is such a comfort,ā she stated. āWe need to see them come back home to their families.ā

Relatives Rejoice Using Pyrotechnics
The mom and sibling of Israeli hostage Matan Zangauker lit fireworks to mark the announcement that he would be homecoming.
āTheyāre coming back!... Matan is coming home!ā Einav Zangauker said as she held her daughter.
Viki Cohen, the mother of Israeli hostage Nimrod Cohen, posted on social media: āMy child, you are coming home.ā
The delight could be felt throughout the avenues in Tel Aviv after the announcement.
Released Captives Say Prayers and Raise Glasses
Ex-captive of British-Israeli origin Emily Damari celebrated with another freed hostage Romi Gonen, uttering blessings of gratitude, then cheering āTo lifeā, meaning āfor lifeā. She has advocated for the release of her friends, twins Gali and Ziv Berman.
Their sibling Liran Berman wrote: āMy dear Gali and Ziv, I adore you. Youāre coming home.ā
Gil Dickmanās cousin Carmel Gat was taken hostage in October 2023, and her body recovered from a tunnel in Gaza nearly a year after. He has participated with other hostage families in pushing for a deal which ensures the return of everyone still detained within Gaza.
āI canāt quite believe this is real. We have waited for so long and now itās here,ā he expressed.
He stated he felt āshatteredā that Carmel would not be among those coming back home but was āradiant with happinessā for the families of the captives who are at last coming back.
Eitan Horn was seized from Nir Oz kibbutz in Israelās south along with his brother.
Guarded Hope from Relatives
Dalia Cusnir, whose relative by marriage Eitan Horn is still held in Gaza, said she experienced like she was living āa dream stateā.
āWe are immensely thankful to the President and all he has accomplished on our behalf. It seems like it might be the start of the conclusion of this ordeal, and embracing Eitan seems nearer than ever,ā she commented.
But she cautioned that it was still too soon to rejoice.
āUntil the last hostage is here, we wonāt open the champagne. We will continue struggling... until the end,ā she said.
āNumerous events can happen up to the final instant so this is why we are extremely cautious. We simply wish to thank everyone who was involved in the work and make sure this deal is finalized... We shall rejoice only when we have the last hostage safely home.ā
Eitan was taken from kibbutz Nir Oz in southern Israel along with his brother Iair, who was released from captivity in a ceasefire deal earlier in the year.
